Claire Mukhi and Vanessa Prior at Everleigh Markets

Founder Claire Mukhi registered Food Guru with her late Father Michael, following years of dreaming to work with their joint passion for food. Michael passed suddenly in June 2010 and after 10 years climbing the corporate ladder in recruitment, Claire's ambition, unfailing passion for food and desire for a more flexible work situation led her to create an online business catering to these needs.

The desire to start Food Guru was also borne out of frustration at seeing local food producers create some amazing ingredients yet don’t have the ability to reach the wider country due to the challenge of competing with overseas imports.

Soon to compliment Claire was her sister-in-law and now business partner, Vanessa Prior. Vanessa has spent the last 9 years working hard to raise her 3 children and being actively involved in their educational and co-curricular activities. Prior to this, Vanessa worked as a manager for a large corporate commodity supplier and was responsible for their operations and logistics.

Her skills, both as a mother and operations guru meant that it was the perfect fit for Vanessa to manage the requirements of Food Guru’s stock management and distribution.

Above all, Vanessa shares Claire’s passion for all things food, and with a particular interest in healthy options for children. Hence the exciting addition of Baby Guru to the Gourmet Grocer range.

Claire hopes to grow the business three fold in the coming year, adding more suppliers, products, cooking schools and food tours to the site. While Vanessa aims to compliment Food Guru’s range of products by ensuring that every Food Guru customer receives their goods on time and in full with exemplary customer service.  Eventually, it will be a one stop shop for gourmet ‘foodies’ countrywide.

Food Guru’s ‘Food News’ showcases Food Journalist Jane De Graaff as she discovers what’s behind the cooking schools and food tours as well as food trends and new products.
